I remember the first time I came across Rockets of Awesome. It was 2016, and the kidswear space was pretty boring. Most brands were playing it safe: blah palettes, generic fits, the same tired "mini adult" aesthetic. And then Rockets launched, and it felt like someone had finally said enough already! The branding was bold. The imagery was joyful. The whole thing screamed: kids should look like kids, and kids should have fun. I was a big fan from the very first look. I wasn't alone. The brand took off fast: subscription boxes, buzz, a real moment. It felt like the start of something that could reshape how we all thought about dressing children.And then, like a lot of rockets, it didn't quite reach orbit. I've thought about that a lot over the years. What it means to build something with a genuinely great idea at its center, and still not make it all the way. The children's apparel market is unforgiving. Capital requirements are brutal. Building a brand that families fall in love with is only half the battle; building the infrastructure to sustain it is another fight entirely. The Rockets of Awesome team had something real. The timing, the capital, the headwinds — those things don't always cooperate, no matter how good your instincts are.When the opportunity to acquire Rockets of Awesome came up, we got really excited and then we got to work. After months of due diligence, negotiations and many late nights we got the deal done. Here's what I want you to know about why we did this and what we're going to do with it.The original Rockets of Awesome team built something worth honoring. The commitment to centering kids, to making clothes that feel like an extension of a child's personality rather than a costume adults picked out for them. That instinct was right then, and it's right now. We're not going to mess with that. Fun isn't just a brand attribute, it's a vital part of childhood, and we're going to keep making clothes that make getting dressed a whole lot of fun. It also opens up territory we've never played in at Mightly like swimwear, technical activewear and woven fabrics. Categories we've been eager to explore but never had the right vehicle for, and that give us a chance to show up for kids in entirely new ways. We've always believed that sustainable, ethically made clothing shouldn't be limited to a single category or occasion. Now it doesn't have to be. What we're bringing to it is everything Mightly has spent years building: a supply chain we actually believe in. Fair Trade certified factories. Real relationships with the farmers and workers who make these clothes, people who are treated as partners, not inputs. And a genuine commitment to pushing what sustainable fibers can look like across an entire kids' wardrobe, including recycled cotton, recycled polyester, and more. The kids wearing Rockets of Awesome deserve clothes made with as much care as went into designing them. And the people making those clothes deserve dignity and fair wages. We won't pretend the transition is instant. Supply chains take time to build right, and we're still a small company with the real-world limitations that come with that. But this is the work we know how to do, and we're not going to stop doing it just because the brand is new to us. There's a reason people fell in love with Rockets of Awesome. The founding team created something with real magic in it. We don't take that lightly, and we're committed to honoring their work while building something that lasts.
